And so the 7th BeachBuggin' came along. Following the date change from June to August last year we decided to stick with the August date in 2006. It seemed to be popular with the regulars and doesn’t clash with any other shows that are too local so we figured why not. Sunday 20th August was therefore the date of this years show. It was a scary week leading up to the show however, the weather which until now had been sunny enough to put drought orders and hosepipe bans across the country had taken a significant turn for the worst, so much so that a few people even called to see if it was still on. But we’re made of sterner stuff and the show was going on rain or shine. In the event though it was shine, it was windy but the sun was out and by 10am you could see a queue of v-dubs stretching the length of the seafront road.
The queue was made up largely of the clubs that had cruised down and significantly of the 100+ vehicles that had been camping in Horndean the night before. The Campsite had once again been organised by the PKW VW club and by all accounts was very much enjoyed by all. This year it featured live music from a band called ‘Roads’, a very good Bournemouth based band whose laid back sounds kept people entertained for the evening.
So anyway, the show filled up, the 16 clubs that had travelled from around the south were all lined up in a spectacular display of v-dub loveliness and the show ‘n’ shine was better attended than ever. The Southern Dune Buggy Club was once again particularly well represented with over 35 beachbuggies lined up for the occasion.
Alongside all of the VW related activity came some entertainment from the Throwdown Breakdance Crew, the highlight of this came when the professionals stepped aside to let the kids in the audience have a go. How to describe that scene as 20 kids jumped on the lino and tried to emulate the dancers is near impossible, words that spring to mind are cute, chaotic, hilarious, unbelievable, mesmerising… and a whole list of superlatives, but you get the idea, they had fun in a way that only kids know how.
And then, before you knew it, the day was coming to a close. The Show ‘n’ Shine winners took their trophies and Scottie from New Waves VW Club took home the £100 GSF voucher for becoming Overall Best In Show. Another great day out by the sea was coming to an end, the dubs were off up the M27 was in a spectacle that won’t be repeated until 2007.
Hope you can make it!
