BeachBuggin' 2005 - Southsea Common

Year 6. It is amazing how the little show that we first put on in 2000 has become this monster. And at one point we wondered if it would happen at all. This year represents 200 years since Nelson and his out-numbered band of British mariners defeated the nasty French and Spanish at Trafalgar. Since Portsmouth is the spiritual home of the British Navy, the local council decided to celebrate it here, right where we hold BeachBuggin'. A few negotiations and a date change later however and we managed not only to have a cool show, but for the first time ever, we had an overnight camping field at nearby Horndean as well as a cruise to the show in the morning.

For us the camping was a bit of an experiment but fortunately with the great help from Bungle and the rest of the local V-Dub club, PKW (Portsmouth Kleiner Wagens) it worked really well. Because of this we have decided to go for it again in 2006. We'll be doing much the same as last year, hoping to lay on a really chilled out pre-Beachbuggin’ camping event, except this time with a great live band playing, helping to provide some likable sound entertainment.

Another change for us in 2005 was that our friends at Eastpak couldn't make it with their skate & BMX team. As a worthy replacement however, we managed to get hold of the Throwdown breakdance team, who if anything were even more popular than the BMX'ers - although at one point they were delayed because the sun was actually warping the vinyl records that the DJ was playing and we had to shade them with a big umbrella (but we consider excess sun a nice problem to have..).

In all the day was great, there was even a thread on Volkszone the next day exclaiming that BeachBuggin' is the best show of the year! We thank everybody who came along and who shares (or even comes close to) that sentiment. We’ll keep putting the show on for as long as there are people who want to come along and enjoy it.
