BeachBuggin' 2000 - Boscombe Pier

In the year 2000 the first ever Beachbuggin' was held at Boscombe Pier, Bournemouth. It was put together as a project for the first year of our Arts & Event Management degree course at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth.

The intention was (and still is) to put on a chilled day by the sea for the Air Cooled V-Dub community that wouldn't be expensive to go to. We also wanted it to have a beach/Surf lifestyle vibe that has become synonymous with the Air Cooled scene so we arranged for some beach volleyball demos and gave out sandcastle flags to each vehicle.

As a part of the 'giving something back' ethos of our show we figured that since we were putting on a seaside event that we should support an appropriate charity. As with so many of these things we were lucky to know Ed, the WDCS events guy. Ed has been into the v-dub scene for years and it didn't take much to persuade him that his organisation (and his lovely beryl green resto, cal-look bug) should come along. From this day the WDCS have become a regular feature at Beachbuggin' and we continue to support their work.
